Aspirin Benefits in Seniors?

The National Institute on Aging reported a study recently that showed no positive effect on senior living when taking aspirin daily. In other words, the wide based study which monitored over 19 thousand seniors, did not help them live independently any longer than those that didn’t take aspirin.

The study compared the rates of physical disability and dementia for a group that took aspirin and another group that took a placebo. Both groups showed very similar rates of declined health.

Aspirin Risk in Seniors

The study also looked at the risks of taking aspirin daily for seniors over 65 which lead to a higher risk of bleeding in the GI tract and brain.

The study is still looking at data and recommends to listen to you physician since every elder’s needs may be different.
